Last year, at Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, NYC, we were blown away by performances from artists like Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Pearl Jam—and of course, Queen Bee. After leaving the festival with sore throats and full hearts, we didn’t think it was possible for any festival to top it. Well, we were really, really wrong.
The Global Citizen Committee outdid themselves this year, putting together a list of some of the biggest names in the music industry like Rihanna and Metallica, along with a slew of incredible hosts such as Chelsea Handler, Debra Lee and Hugh Jackman, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra, and Salma Hayek Pinault. Haven’t seen the lineup yet? Brace yourself.
After seeing the performers who are set to grace the stage in NYC this weekend, we can’t help but focus on the reasons why. The Global Citizen Committee is a social platform that is challenging the way we think about extreme poverty. With over six million actions taken in the forms of tweets, petitions, and phone calls to reach world leaders and bring awareness to this issue, the Global Citizen’s Committee has managed to raise over $25.6 billion, which is expected to help an estimated 656 million people.
Their goal is to end extreme poverty by 2030—and you can bet this festival is a showcase for some of the artists who are joining the movement.
Unfortunately, Central Park is only so big, and not everyone can watch these incredible artists sing for a good cause live. Starting at 3 p.m. EST on September 24, this year’s festival will be livestreamed in it’s entirety on MSNBC. From headliners like Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Demi Lovato, Major Lazer, and Metallica, you’ll be able to feel the energy whether you live in NYC or not.
Events like the Global Citizen’s Festival are huge help in getting this movement rolling, so if you can't make it to the event tomorrow, make sure to tune in!
