The best way to celebrate your twenty-fifth birthday? A trip overseas, of course! That's why French festival Vieilles Charrues traveled across the pond to New York for a one-day celebration on October 1 in Central Park’s Rumsey Playfield. If you're not familiar with seeing European shows at that venue, it's for a good reason: this was the first time ever that a show of this size had come to the park, so if you were there, consider yourself lucky.
As for us, we happened to be some of the lucky few to witness this epic event, giving us the chance to check out sets by The Avener (who you may remember from his 2014 single "Fade Out Lines"), Matthieu Chedid (who rocked some insanely cool light-up glasses at one point), Krismenn & Alem (an incredibly talented duo who combine beat boxing and singing to create truly unique tracks—watch this video to see what we mean), and The Celtic Social Club (a septet with occasional guest musicians who combine instruments like flute, mandolin, banjo, harmonica, washboard, and uilleann pipes with samples and chanting to create a sound you've definitely never heard before.)
Check out all the action from Vieilles Charrues in the photos below, and make sure to track the artists to see when they’ll be in town again, fingers crossed for really soon.
