Another day, another art community is being threatened. One of Los Angeles' iconic DIY spaces, The Smell, is facing eviction after nearly two decades at their downtown location on Main Street. After waking up one morning to find a demolition notice on their building, the founders of the music and art venue are banding together (along with their longtime fans), to save the cultural melting pot's legacy.
How do they plan to do so? In addition to having created a GoFundMe page, they will be celebrating their 19th anniversary by hosting a benefit concert to raise money for relocation into a spot in central LA. As part of a three-night event, shows will be performed at their current location on January 6 and 8, as well as at the historic Belasco Theater on January 7. The two nights at their homebase location will see performances from the likes of Jurassic Shark, Super Lunch, Current Joys, TEEKS, and more. Scheduled to take the stage for the latter date are No Age, Best Coast, Bleached, Ty Segall, Vice Cooler, as well as an unannounced, "special surprise guest".
