Catching a concert by The Wombats practically guarantees a wildly energetic night out. The Liverpool natives—Matthew ‘Murph’ Murphy, Dan Haggis, and Tord Øverland Knudsen—electrify the post-punk scene, mixing psychedelic rhythms and melancholy vibes. It’s safe to say that The Wombats should be added to your live music bucket-list, like, yesterday.
Their forthcoming album Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life explores the somewhat jarring transition into adulthood and the failures that go with it naturally. It’s a departure from their previous albums, but fans will surely not be disappointed with the direction they’re heading in. Lucky for all of you who are already aboard The Wombats’ train (and for all of you who are about to be), they're currently rocking around North America on a 16-date tour, and will be joining Weezer and Pixies this summer.
We checked out their show in Kansas City at The Truman, where we were welcomed to their world of electro-pop goodness. Starting the show off on the right note with “Cheetah Tongue” from their 2018 LP, they moved joyfully through the songs “Pink Lemonade”, “Moving To New York”, and the crowd-favorite “Let’s Dance To Joy Division”. We were blown away by their infectious energy and spirit, and spent the whole night dancing (comfortable shoes are a must, people)! So cancel your plans, because The Wombats will most likely be hitting a city near you this spring and you’ll need to be there for it.
