Since Icon For Hire’s inception in 2007, the band—Ariel Bloomer (vocals) and Shawn Jump (guitar)—has amassed one of the most devoted fan bases in the game. When the "Make A Move" singers broke away from their record label in 2016, supporters jumped at the opportunity to help bring their third album to fruition, raising $127,000 in a Kickstarter campaign.
The resulting product, You Can’t Kill Us, is infused with a rebellious spirit that stems from the struggles they've faced thus far in the industry. Each track on the LP serves as a call to action, both liberating and inspiring fans (and other musicians) to free themselves from whatever it is holding them back from achieving their goals.
You can catch them on their 36-date Turn Your Pain Into Art US tour, which kicks off February 15 in Houston. After that, the duo will be heading off to Europe, where they’ll be making stops in cities like Glasgow, Paris, Berlin, and Prague before it wraps on May 12 in Copenhagen.
Ahead of their world travels, the genre-bending two-piece let us know more about the city they call home, Music City. "Living in Nashville is pretty fabulous because there are a million little hidden gems scattered among the more well-known spots," Bloomer said. "I’ve rounded up some of my favorite parts of the city, where I always walk away with some fresh perspective and inspiration."

"Sunniest coffee shop for soulful writing."
"Best place to go when you need to take a break from songwriting and interact with other people’s art instead of your own."
"Best place to sip frosé by the pool and feel like a princess while waiters bring you delicious but overpriced snacks."
"Prettiest cafe for cappuccinos and power bowls (plus the staff is really nice and you get free vegan ice cream)!"
"Coolest place to see a live show where you can get pictures that look like this. A random girl for real grabbed my phone out of my hands and started snapping pics of my friends and I. She got about ten shots and I swear this is the BEST ONE. Also, Exit/In is where we're playing later next month!"
"Chillest spot to grab a bite after the show. I started writing our single Now You Know at this place after attending a Hottest Chicks in Hard Rock show and being frustrated to no end that this is what we as female musicians have to work with."
"Best spot for yoga with a view."
"Best stocked thrift shop for musicians on a budget."
"Best coffee shop to spot Tom Hanks. (I refrained from sneaking a pic of Tom Hanks because that is NOT OKAY in Nashville, so I grabbed this shot instead, which is not at all as cool as Tom Hanks)."
"Nicest tattoo parlor for nervous first timers."
"Best downtown photo-op."
"Best salon for haircuts and positive affirmations!"
"I hope you’ll check out some of these places and add Nashville to your travel wish list! We also have *fabulous* donuts here. Just saying."
