Whether it’s writing hits for Top 40 powerhouses like the Backstreet Boys and Rihanna, or releasing her own unapologetically impassioned tracks, LP has spent the last two decades being an industry tastemaker. With a unique, growling voice, LP combines her pop songwriting skills with clear rock sensibilities, showcasing ever-present guitars and drum beats.
Her newest album, Heart to Mouth, is filled with elegant lyrics that tug on the heartstrings and find a home in hypnotizing vocals. The Long Island native manages to balance both pop and rock sounds while never letting the instruments overwhelm the core emotions of each song. One of her latest singles, “Recovery,” is a tragic breakup ballad made for mid-rain window gazing, 2AM bed cries, and everything in between.
We got a chance to catch up with LP and ask what’s been on rotation on her tour bus as she embarks on her Heart to Mouth tour. Check out the songs below, and be sure to catch her on one of her worldwide dates this spring!
This is the first song I ever heard of this band and I was just blown away by the lyrics. I feel like they’re one of those bands that communicates in this esoteric language that just creeps into your soul whether you like it or not.
This song, the chorus just blows me away. St Vincent has such a cool combination of an almost industrial coldness and bleeding heart at the same time. And not to mention, she’s the sickest musician who’s inspired many girls to become guitar heroes.
