You’ve seen it in dozens of movies; a young, aspiring artists packs their bags and hops in a car to LA hoping to achieve their dreams. For Jersey born singer/songwriter Adam Melchor, the trope became a reality—and judging by his 500k monthly Spotify listeners, the decision more than paid off.
Though Melchor’s first official single was released in 2017, he’s not a stranger to music. After graduating with a degree in opera, he joined a band in Brooklyn, playing with them until they decided on a move to Nashville, with Melchor choosing to stay in the Big Apple. Instead, he occupied his time with writing and recording demos. Eventually, one of those demos got picked up by a producer in LA, which is where his journey truly kicked off.
Two EP’s and a handful of singles later, Melchor is at the top of his game. His 2018 release, “Real Estate” is nearing 3 million streams on Spotify, while “Metadata” was spun on Kendall Jenner’s Apple Music radio show. No surprise there, as it’s impossible to not get hooked on Melchor’s chilled out, often layered vocals conveying deeply personal and vulnerable stories of his childhood and personal life.
On July 18, Melchor released his newest single “Joyride,” the follow-up to March’s Plan On You EP. In a press release, Melchor explained the meaning behind the song, saying that “about letting things go for the better.” He went on to express how the lyrics related to his parents’ divorce, and finding the silver lining in adversity.
For the rest of this month, Melchor will be joining Rodrigo y Gabriella on tour, making stops in California, Nevada, and Colorado. Right before he hits the road, we caught up with the budding star for an exclusive look into his music library to learn which songs get him pumped up before a show, or helps him wind down after. Check it out below, then track Melchor to stay up-to-date on all of his touring news!
