After taking a hiatus from recording, Royal Teeth have returned to the indie-pop scene, bringing with them the high-spirited and down-to-earth energy that we first fell in love with back in 2012. The Lafayette, Louisiana based quartet ushered in a new era with the single “Never Gonna Quit,” a mantra that inspired them to write their latest LP, Hard Luck. Released on June 28, the album embraces their familiar but fresh sound with the crunchy and defiant singles “Get a Load of This One” and “Show You What I Can Do” featuring Tunde Olanirian.
A heart-wrenching track from the album, “Rivalry” is an important one for the band—it touches on their turbulent experiences in the music industry they've faced over the years. While the album version is captivating with its rhythmic charm, we’re excited to premiere the stripped down live video for the track, which was recorded for the Living Room Sessions. Singer Nora Patterson’s soft vocals soar beyond the piano, highlighting the extreme persistence and vulnerability laid out in the song. “The love I reference in the song is my relationship to my life as a musician,” says songwriter/lead singer Gary Larsen in a recent Billboard interview. "[It’s] sort of this internal battle when there’s days when I think, ‘Is this really worth it? This is a lot of stress, and we’re really struggling to make a living out of this."
The band is currently on their US Tour with indie veterans The Rocket Summer with upcoming dates in Sommerville, NYC, and Buffalo. Be sure to track Royal Teeth on Bandsintown and check out the video below!
