20 Songs That Turned 10-Years-Old In 2018
A trip down memory lane, anyone?LIST
2008—the year that brought us the Twilight movie, Beyonce and Jay-Z’s wedding, and shutter shades (Thanks, Kanye). As far as music was concerned, now-infamous bands like Florence + The Machine and Vampire Weekend released their debut albums, while generational classics like “You Belong With Me” and “Use Somebody” entered the charts for the first time.
As crazy as it seems, it’s been an entire decade since we first rocked out to these tunes (and probably on our iPod Touches). Lucky for you, we compiled some of our favorites that will transport you back in time.
Bring on the nostalgia.
1. 'Viva La Vida' - Coldplay
If you close your eyes, you can probably visualize yourself screaming these lyrics every time it came on the radio. Now that you mention it, we’d def sing them just as loud as we did ten years ago.
2. 'Decode' - Paramore
Everyone’s favorite track straight from the Twilight soundtrack. 2008 wouldn’t have been 2008 without Hayley Williams’ iconic orange locks.
3. 'Gives You Hell' - The All-American Rejects
Nothing says late ‘00s quite like an angsty song by The All-American Rejects. We still remember the sass in this song, “Truth be told, I miss you. And truth be told, I’m lying.”.
4. 'You Belong With Me' - Taylor Swift
The T-Swift we all fell in love with. We’ll be the first to admit, we still get “She wears short skirts, I wear t-shirts” stuck in our heads sometimes.
5. 'What About Now' - Daughtry
Chris Daughtry, the American Idol finalist, gave us the rock ballads we needed back in the day. Even though he finished in fourth place, he’s still number one to us.
6. 'Use Somebody' - Kings of Leon
A song so good we still hear it all the time. Will artists ever stop covering this song? We really hope not.
7. 'Walking On A Dream' - Empire of the Sun
This song actually didn’t even chart in the US until 2016 when it was used in a Honda Civic commercial, but the OG’s remember dancing to this new wave bop.
8. 'Paper Planes' - M.I.A.
Let’s be honest, nobody was ready for this song in 2008. It’s not humanly possible to forget the iconic gunfire/cash register combo found in everyone’s favorite throwback hip-hop jam.
9. 'Fall For You' - Secondhand Serenade
The soundtrack to everyone’s heartache, and rightfully so. They don’t quite make songs like this anymore.
10. 'Shake It' - Metro Station
This song was on everybody’s party mixtape. The dance floor anthem of the decade.
11. 'Skinny Love' - Bon Iver
Yep. A whole 10 years ago is when Bon Iver’s hauntingly beautiful voice touched all of our ears for the first time.
12. 'A-Punk' - Vampire Weekend
Vampire Weekend’s debut single gave 2008 the spunk it was lacking. OH! OH! OH!
13. 'Nine In The Afternoon' - Panic! At The Disco
The pop punk gods themselves, P!ATD gifted us this track as a part of their sophomore album, Pretty Odd.
14. 'Heartless' - Kanye West
And this was just one of hits that came along with his fourth album, 808s & Heartbreak, not to mention, awesome covers of the track by artists like Kris Allen.
15. 'Electric Feel' - MGMT
I said ooh girl. I don’t know if you have ever listened to this song in your headphones while walking down the street, but I promise it still has the same magic vibes that it did a decade ago.
16. 'I'm Yours' - Jason Mraz
I know it feels like just yesterday that we hummed along to the infectious tune that is “I’m Yours”, but it’s been 10 years since we all felt the need to try fedoras to match Mraz’s look.
17. 'Dog Days Are Over' - Florence + The Machine
The queen herself, Florence Welch, and her band who captivated us all with their alluring, eclectic vibes. Little did we know this would only be the first of many amazing songs from them.
18. 'You Found Me' - The Fray
No matter who you were in 2008, you felt this one. The Fray gave us this track off their self-titled album and we have not forgotten about it since.
19. 'That's Not My Name' - The Ting Tings
The indie pop song we literally could not stop singing by the eclectic British duo. We loved it then, and we definitely still love it now.
20. 'Low' - Flo Rida ft. T-Pain
This list would not be complete without this song, as it held the number one spot on the charts longer than any other song in 2008. Do people still wear Apple Bottom jeans?
